The Only Resolutions You Need to Make This Year

Oh my goodness we made it! Can we just acknowledge the fact that we’ve been through it? Last year was big, and I am blown away by this opportunity to say Happy New Year once again!

I’m also excited to hear about what you’ve planned, but I think it’s important to acknowledge that maybe that’s nothing. Maybe you’re simply breathing into this new space. And if so, that’s great. I’m proud of you for being here.

And I’ve got you covered: this year, you only need to make (and keep) these 3 resolutions:

If you’re someone with more than one passion, setting your intentions for the year can be overwhelming. Don't worry: you only need to make (and keep) these 3 New Years Resolutions.

1. Prioritize your health

Nothing else on your list is getting done if you’re not at your best. I know you know this already, but it’s worth emphasizing. You can’t show up fully for your dreams if you’re tired and depleted. I know we’re starting with the basics here, but if we’re looking at the biologic aspect of health, this means getting consistent and adequate rest, physical activity, and nutrition. If you’ve already got this down pat, amazing, but I know most of us could treat our bodies a bit more kindly. So, one of my health priorities for this year is to make sure I’m getting 150 minutes of moderate to intense physical activity in each week. (Read: How to Get In Your Best Shape Ever… For Free!)

Prioritize good sleep, exercise and eating habits this year.

2. Promote your personal growth

Of course, our health encompasses so much more than just our biology. This year, can we focus on the positive influences in our lives while minimizing the negative ones? Give yourself permission to do more of what builds you up, whether that be reading, spending time with people who get you, or making time to learn new skills.

Spend time on what builds you up and remove the things that don’t.

If you’re someone with more than one passion, setting your intentions for the year can be overwhelming. Don't worry: you only need to make (and keep) these 3 New Years Resolutions.

3.  Make time for your passions

Last, but not least, make your passions a priority this year! If there’s something you love to do that you haven’t found enough time for in the past, start today. Decide that this is the year you’ll make time for you. There is nothing selfish, silly, or unprofessional about going after what you’re passionate about. Making time for what fills you up is one of the wisest things you can do for yourself this year, but you know I’m multi-passionate and biased.

Prioritize your passions by planning around them

Wait… is that it?

Yes! It is. You don’t have to do all the things. In fact, what I love about this list is that it’s broad enough for you to add in specifics if you want to, but you can also just leave it as it is. The beginning of your year doesn’t need to be grand and complex, despite the pressures you might be feeling. In fact, this might be the perfect time to give yourself a little bit of a break and to focus back in on what you need more of and how you can prioritize that this year.

And just as this time (and any other time of the year!) is one for reflection and intention setting, it’s also the time to act. Don’t be afraid to get started and to adjust your plans as needed.
